What the register is
The Register of Insolvencies (RoI) is the official Scottish public record maintained by Accountant in Bankruptcy. Trust deed information forms part of it.
This is an important consequence to understand before signing. A provider describing its initial conversation as confidential is not saying that the formal arrangement will be invisible to the public.
What information can appear
AiB’s guidance lists identifying details of the person granting the trust deed, trustee details and relevant dates and status information. The register serves legal and administrative purposes.
Do not assume that a person’s name alone is sufficient to identify the correct entry. If checking your own case, compare the details with your paperwork.
How to check your position
Use the official Register of Insolvencies rather than an unofficial “debt removal” service.
If an entry or date is unclear, ask the trustee for confirmation of the case status and whether an update has been submitted. Keep a copy of the reply. This website cannot access or change your case record.
How long will details remain?
AiB’s public information says details remain during the trust deed and are removed 12 months after it ends. Because your discharge and the trustee’s discharge are separate events, ask the trustee which recorded event determines removal in your case.
Do not calculate a removal date simply by adding four years to the date you began making payments.
The register is not your credit report
Credit reference agencies maintain separate records. Updating the RoI does not guarantee every credit report changes at the same time, and removal from a public register is not a credit approval.
See credit rating and trust deeds for the distinct six-year credit-file issue.
If accuracy or safety is a concern
Raise incorrect details with the trustee and AiB using their official channels. If publication creates a personal safety concern, explain this before signing and ask what can lawfully be done. Do not rely on a general privacy statement to resolve that issue.
Keep sensitive case information out of public comments or social-media posts when seeking help.
