A letter is a starting point—not the whole story

Check who is contacting you, who the creditor is and what document you have received. The same firm can carry out ordinary collection work, deliver court papers or enforce a court order. Those activities are not interchangeable.

If a court deadline, charge for payment, arrestment or visit is imminent, seek free Scottish debt advice promptly. Searching for a firm or making a complaint does not pause a legal deadline.

This independent directory does not collect debts, accept payments or represent the firms listed. It covers Scottish enforcement roles; it does not claim that any listed firm deals exclusively with Scottish-origin debts. Read the coverage rules.

What this directory covers—and what it does not

The inclusion baseline is SMASO’s Scottish member-firm listing. We checked every listed firm’s profile and used firm websites where they could be verified. A Scottish office, Scottish registration or work for a Scottish creditor does not establish that a company only handles Scottish-origin debts.

Some firms, including Walker Love, Alex M Adamson and Gordon & Noble, explicitly describe wider or cross-border work. Their profiles are included for their Scottish enforcement role, not labelled Scotland-exclusive. Smaller firms with limited public information are identified as professional listings; we do not invent client lists or service coverage.

Why not add every debt collector with a Scottish office?

BPO Collections describes UK client work; Resolvecall describes a UK-wide field service; and Pastdue Credit Solutions lists international collections. We have not created Scotland-only firm pages for these wider-market collectors. Scottish residents dealing with them can still use the letter-checking and complaints guides above.

This is not an exhaustive register of every business that might pursue a Scottish resident. Check the current SMASO firm directory and individual officer search for professional details. Membership is not authentication of an individual letter. Read our editorial and source policy.
